Following a promising first half season, Heather has shown herself to be a competitive trail blazer, winning her first race just six months after giving birth.
After the birth of her second child, Heather was keen to get active, again. However, the former distance runner found she easily picked up injuries, and decided to re-pursue her childhood passion of cycling.
“I spent a lot of my younger years on a bike, and even lived in the French Alps for a while, which certainly has some scenic, but arduous training routes. My father was semi-pro himself, and he placed a lot of enjoyment in cycling as a leisure hobby, too.”
In August, Heather took part in the Hertfordshire 100, with a rural route, scaling 100 miles across the county, and learned at the finish line she was fastest woman on the track.
After gaining in confidence in her abilities, Heather took part in this month’s in the Finsbury Park Cycling Club’s Women’s Circuit Race, and won.
She said: “This win was a bit unexpected. I found the race fast and hard and there were some really strong women in the race, who might have beaten me on a dead sprint, so I knew I had to get away early. It was the best feeling in the world coming over the line to hug my children and have them at the prize giving.”
Heather currently races on the Merida Scultura 4000, an endurance model selected by the expert team at Highway Cycles, tailored to Heather’s training needs.
The Scultura’s off-road ready tyres provide Heather with much needed support on country lanes, particularly those that are prone to potholes. This fun, zippy model allows Heather to ride comfortably, with optimum support.
So, what is Heather planning next?
She added: “I am looking forward to hitting some different goals over the off-season, then coming back stronger and faster for my first full season on the roads in 2025, where I’ll be focusing on circuit races.”
