Cllr Richard Townsend, Mayor of Bishop’s Stortford
Like many of us, I’d known for a long time that I needed to exercise more, improve my circulation and most importantly, my overall fitness. This is very much how my personal e-journey began.
I lost my wife in April.
It was incredibly hard. So many adventures which will never be had, and the future that I’d hoped for was no longer there.
I decided at then and there, to do something with my life that I knew she would approve of.
In August, I attended the official opening of Highway Cycles’ new store in Bishop’s Stortford. I was blown away by the astounding range of bikes, and decided I needed to have a test ride.
For some time, I have been interested in discovering the benefits of a UK legal EAPC bike, and decided to purchase the Riese and Müller Charger4.
My e-bike selection was ideal for me, as someone with historic injuries and, unfortunately, ageing joints, it comes with power assistance that has a selection of variations, to aid me with longer journeys- my favourite option being “auto”, which monitors the cadence on the pedals and increases the motor input, where necessary.
My e-bike and I have started a journey together. Suddenly, I have the ability to tackle hills and distances, that I otherwise could not contemplate.
Cycling really has brought joy to my daily activities.
